With the addition of two new teams, the fans are eagerly waiting for the 15th edition of the Indian Premier League to start. However, before the tournament kicks off, events of similar importance precede it, that is the retention and auction of players. While the auction is expected to be held in January, the retention process will kick off in hours from now.

The teams, who want to retain their players, will have a chance to keep a maximum of four back with them. The combination could have two overseas players at the most. It is worth noting that all the existing 8 teams have been asked to submit the list of retained players by November 30, 2021. After the retention process is over, the two new teams - Ahmedabad and Lucknow - will get a chance to pick three players each (with a maximum limit of one overseas player). Timeline for this will be from December 1 to December 25. The new sides will be having a purse amount of 33 crore each for the same.

However, before all that unfolds, it will be really interesting to see which players are retained by their respective franchises, and who are the other players that will be available for the two new teams. Here are the details of the retention process.

When will IPL retention take place?

The IPL retention process will take place on November 30, 2021. It will start at 5PM IST.

At what price will the players be retained?

In case a team retains four players. Then the division of money will be as followed- INR 16 crore for player 1, INR 12 crore for player 2, INR 8 crore for player 3, and INR 6 crore for player 4. If the number of retentions decreases to 3, then the money distribution will be INR 15 crore for player 1, INR 11 crore for player 2, and INR 7 crore player 3. In case a team opts to retain 2 players, then it needs to do so on 14 and 10 crores. Meanwhile, the price of retaining only one player will be INR 14 crore.
