Back in 2008, when IPL was started, cricket fans didn’t imagine that the league would become gigantic and have an unprecedented influence in world cricket. After 17 years of its inception, it’s witnessed that India’s franchise T20 league has become the most-successful in the world. Its impact is such in the cricketing world that it not only enhances the potential of talented cricketers, but also makes a major contribution in monetary terms. As of 2023, IPL has 10 franchises who also own some teams in different competitive leagues around the globe.

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), who are three-time IPL champions, have made their presence in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL), ILT20 League, and Major League Cricket (MLC). Besides KKR, Mumbai Indians (MI) have also registered their availability in major leagues. Recently, some IPL franchises hit the headlines for acquiring stakes in "The Hundred" teams in England and Wales, and noting this development, it’s essential to talk about these IPL-based outlets.

GMR Group, who are already owning Delhi Capitals (DC) in IPL, entered The Hundred competition after acquiring 49% stake in Southern Brave in February 2025. Brave won the maiden edition of the English cricket competition which started in 2021. The eminent Indian multinational conglomerate spend 49-million pounds to become a part of the team.

Sunrisers Hyderabad in Northern Superchargers

Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), who have been part of IPL since 2013, bought 100% stake in Northern Supercharges in February 2025 after putting in 100-million pounds. With this business deal, the Sunrisers will take full control of the cash-strapped Yorkshire-based franchise. 

Lucknow Super Giants in Manchester Originals

Sanjiv Goenka’s RPSG Group which also owns Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) won the bid in the Lancashire-based team Manchester Originals. The RPSG Group pulled off the deal after splurging 116-million pounds, which helped them secure 49% stake in the franchise. RPSG Group also has investment in Durban Super Giants in the SA20 League.

Mumbai Indians in Oval Invincibles

MI also broke into The Hundred competition after buying 49% stake in Oval Invincibles, who won the men’s tournament in 2023 and 2024 editions of the league. The franchise paid 60-million pounds to emerge victorious in the virtual auction held in January 2025.
