The Coronavirus pandemic continues to wreak havoc around the world and the organisers of sporting tournaments and competitions are having a tough trying to keep the game up and running. Despite several rounds of vaccinations and stringent measures in place in some parts of the world, the virus has breached the various bubbles and the latest victim of it seems to be the Indian Super League.

Consequently, the ISL match between ATK Mohun Bagan and Bengaluru FC scheduled to be played on Saturday in Fatorda has been postponed. There has been a COVID-19 outbreak in both sides and as a result, the match has been called off for now.

"Each match is assessed on a number of factors including the ability of the clubs to field a team; the severity of Covid-19 breakout at the club(s); and the ability of the club personnel to safely prepare for and play the match," an official statement released by the tournament organisers read.

"The health and safety of all personnel in various bubbles remains our priority, and the league and clubs will continue to monitor the situation and act accordingly," the statement added.

A glimpse at the points tally of the ongoing Indian Super League season shows that while ATKMB are fifth on the points table with 15 points, having played as many as nine matches, Bengaluru seemed to have recently rediscovered their missing mojo after a rather poor start to the competition. The Blues are unbeaten in their last five matches of the tournament and are currently at the 7th position with 13 points from 11 matches.
