David Warner, the Australian veteran opener, has vowed to not get involved in any pre-Ashes banter with the England players and media, ahead of the historic Test series, beginning on June 16. The first match of the Ashes between Australia and England will take place at the Edgbaston in Birmingham. Before that, the Aussies are also scheduled to take on the Indians at The Oval in London for the World Test Championship (WTC) Final, from June 7 onwards.

During the Ashes series last time in England, the 36-year-old scored only 95 runs in 10 innings at an average of 9.5, including a half century. Stuart Broad troubled him the most with the brand-new Dukes ball, while employing the round-the-wicket tactic to perfection in swinging and seaming English conditions four years ago.

According to ICC, David Warner was quoted as saying about the pre-Ashes banter, “It just sells papers and clickbait, so I won’t be getting involved in any of that stuff. I w ill leave it to themsel ves.”

“Today there is no real banter in the field. It is just about playing quality cricket and trying to get the upper edge on each other. It is a lot more connected these days than before which I think is great for the game,” he further added.

In his recent Test series in India, David Warner struggled to put up a big score on the board, before getting injured and further being ruled out after two matches. He got only 26 runs in three innings, as the Indian spinners dominated him right throughout, on turning pitches.

The opening partner of New South Welshman, Usman Khawaja also talked about how good he is looking in the nets, ahead of the long summer of Test cricket in England. He said, “I have seen him (David Warner) bat in the last couple of days and, I don’t want to jinx him, but he is looking good. This is probably the best I have seen him look in the nets for a while.”

“That doesn’t always correlate to runs, but if we are any chance of Davey Warner scoring runs this could be it. He always plays his best when his back is against the wall too,” Khawaja opined.
