Former India skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni gave a humorous reply on being asked why he chose the jersey number 7. Dhoni shared a light-hearted remark about the origin of his iconic jersey. The number 7 has become a trademark in Dhoni’s journey in cricket, which has filled memorable victories and achieved coveted titles, including the 2007 T20I World Cup, 2011 World Cup, Champions Trophy and five IPL titles. Recently, the BCCI paid a fitting tribute to the former skipper and retired the jersey.

While it is no longer a secret that Dhoni chose number 7 for his jersey for several reasons, the Ranchi boy decided to clarify it once more in his witty style. The 42-year-old was present at an event where the reporter asked him the significance of his jersey number. Dhoni replied, "That is the time or day my parents decided I w ould come on earth. So, I was born on the 7th Of July. So July again the seventh month. 81 was the year so 8-1=7. So it was very easy for me to go out there when they asked me, ‘Okay, what number do you want’."
