South Africa narrowly survived the clash against Pakistan as they took down the Babar Azam-led side by one wicket on October 28, Friday in ODI World Cup 2023. The Proteas successfully chased the target of 271 runs with one wicket in hand and 16 balls to spare. Babar Azam had won the toss and decided to bat first. The Men in Green were all out in 270 runs in 46.4 overs.

The Proteas rode on Aiden Markram’s 91 off 93 deliveries to get near the target posted by their counterparts. However, their efforts seemed to be going in vain as Pakistan bowlers made a solid comeback in the game and Temba Bavuma-side started losing wickets towards the end of the game. It was Keshav Maharaj who held nerves and hit the winning runs to get the team a narrow win over Pakistan and top spot in the standings.
