England and Australia cricket squads were at a Major League Baseball game in London, where the star bowlers of both teams, James Anderson and Nathan Lyon threw the first ceremonial pitches. The Chicago Cubs and St Louis Cardinals are clashing against each other for two games at the former London Olympic Stadium, and the game comes a few days after Australia took down England by two wickets in the first Test of Ashes 2023.
For the ceremonial pitch, the England fast bowler was dressed in the Cubs jersey and the Aussie cricketer was seen donning the colours of the Cardinals. The Ashes rivals shook hands before throwing down before the game, which saw Cubs beating the Cards by a 9-1 margin.
The cricketers then threw the pitches to a round of applause as they greeted their respective catchers, Anderson with Patrick Wisdom and Lyon with Andrew Knizner.

Notably, Anderson has been linked to MLB through his part in the BBC’s popular podcast Tailenders with the former guitarist Felix White, working as a commentator on baseball in the UK. On the other hand, the Aussie squad members were there because many of them, including the head coach Andrew McDonald, who is a devotee of the Boston Red Sox, follow the game closely.
Speaking of the ongoing Ashes series, England, after losing the first Test, will look forward to levelling with Pat Cummins' side in the second game commencing on June 28, at the Lord’s.
