On Friday, June 6, Italy’s Jannik Sinner defeated former World No. 1 and Olympic gold medallist, Novak Djokovic in straight sets to enter his first-ever Roland Garros final. The Italian beat his Serbian opponent 6-4, 7-5, 7-6 (7-3) at the Philippe Chatrier Court in straight sets to advance into the summit clash, which is scheduled to take place on Sunday, June 8.

During the match, which lasted from three hours and 16 minutes, the world number one maintained his impressive form, remaining undefeated in sets throughout the tournament so far. Moreover, the 23-year-old remained composed, especially after breaking back immediately after failing to serve out the second set.

During the three-hour and 16-minute stay, the Italian top-seeded hit around 44 winners and defended three set points. The Serbian, on the other hand, also remained resilient throughout the contest, but failed to convert the crucial set points in the final set, going down in the game, and ended his quest for a record 25th major title.

While Sinner will be vying for his first major title at the esteemed French Open, he will face a stiff competition as he is set to face defending champion, Carlos Alcaraz. The Spaniard enters the final after Italy’s Lorenzo Musetti retired due to a leg injury while trailing 4-6. 7-6 (7-3), 6-0, 2-0.

The top two ranked players will take on the Philippe Chatrier Court in the summit clash on Sunday, June 8 from 6:30 pm (IST) onward. Furthermore, it will be an interesting contest as Alcaraz eyes his fifth Grand Slam, knowing that Sinner has won last four encounters between the two, including the Italian Open final.
