Star Indian fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah has been advised to take bed rest due to back swelling and will not rush. Notably, the right-arm pacer felt a load on his back during the fifth Border-Gavaskar Trophy Test at Sydney Cricket Ground and didn’t come to the field in the second innings. Now according to the latest report of the Times of India, Bumrah returned from Australia last week and is supposed to visit the BCCI's Centre of Excellence.

This has also raised concerns among the Indian fans as Jasprit Bumrah now becomes doubtful for the 2025 Champions Trophy as he cannot resume playing until his back recovers. Apart from that, there is also no information on when he will visit the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence. “Bumrah could go to the CoE next week but right now there is no fixed date yet. He has been advised bed rest at home to help the muscles recover and the swelling to subside. Once that is done, future course of action will be ascertained,”  a source was quoted as saying by TOI.

If it’s a disc bulge or swelling the…:  Ramji Srinivasan on Jasprit Bumrah’s injury

Former Indian strength and conditioning coach Ramji Srinivasan also said that Jasprit Bumrah may have to sit out for a longer time if there is a ‘disc bulge’. However. Srinivasan also added that his injury is not that serious as of now. Bumrah finished as a leading wicket taker of the 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy down under with 32 scalps in nine innings.

“Swelling happens if there is a tear because of edema formation – which depends on the grade of tear in the muscle. If it’s a disc bulge or swelling then recovery also depends on grade, individual capacity, medical intervention and post medical rehab work," Srinivasan said.
