Indian fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah is undoubtedly one of the greatest names to have donned the Indian jersey. Bumrah was in his red-hot form during the T20 World Cup 2024 and played a crucial role in helping the side end their 17-year-long drought. The final saw Rohit Sharma side defeating South Africa on June 29 in Barbados. The entire campaign saw Bumrah picking up 15 wickets in eight matches, and winning the Player of the Tournament Award for his heroics.
Ahead of the Indian team’s training camp at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, an old video of Bumrah has been going viral on the internet. In the video, Bumrah could be seen expressing his displeasure after being called a right-arm medium pacer. According to the cricketer, he is a right-arm fast bowler. The video was shared by the official Instagram page of Mumbai Indians, and it has been reshared multiple times on social media.
Is Jasprit Bumrah out of India’s captaincy contention?
According to India’s squad for the first Test against Bangladesh, the selectors have not named Jasprit Bumrah as the deputy of Indian skipper Rohit Sharma. The BCCI didn’t give any explanation of the same which has led to confusion over the position of vice-captain in the Indian team. While there has not been any clarity regarding the same, there have been speculations, whether or not Bumrah is still in the contention for India captaincy.
Notably, Bumrah has led the Indian squad in one Test and two T20Is against England and Ireland, respectively. As a captain, the Ahmedabad-based cricketer lost the Test match and emerged victorious in both T20Is against Ireland. However, the recent developments have left the question related to India’s Test vice-captain open and it remains to be seen if the fast bowler is aware of it.
