The Shubman Gill-led Team India is taking on England in the fourth Test of the five-match series for the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy, underway at the Emirates Old Trafford in Manchester. While the English side have their eyes set on the trophy, India will be aiming to levelling the series in Manchester, before taking it into the series decider.

While the Ben Stokes-led England side are in a dominant position in the ongoing Test, India is struggling with a lot of issues. While injuries to some of their players have been evident in this tour, star pacer Jasprit Bumrah’s workload management has also been a key talking point. Amidst this, former India batter Mohammad Kaif recently shared startling statements on Bumrah’s future in Test cricket.

Jasprit Bumrah might take retirement: Mohammad Kaif

Taking to social media, the former India cricketer opined that Bumrah might not play upcoming Test matches and might as well call on time from the longest format. “Jasprit Bumrah, I don't think you will see him playing in the upcoming Test matches. And he might even take retirement. He is struggling with his body. His body has totally given up. His speeds have been on the lower side in the Manchester Test. There is no speed in this Test match,” said Kaif in a video shared on X.

“And he is a selfless person. If he feels that he is not able to give 100 per cent for the country, that he is not able to win the match, that he is not getting the wickets, then he himself will refuse. This is my gut feel,” he further added. The statement from the former cricketer came seeing Bumrah struggle in the ongoing Manchester Test, be it in terms of speed or consistency.

In the 33 overs he bowled in the England first innings in the Manchester Test, Bumrah picked up two wickets, conceding 112 runs at an economy of 3.40. Notably, it was the first time in Bumrah’s career that he conceded 100 runs in an innings.
