Fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah is likely to lose his vice-captaincy in Tests ahead of India’s upcoming tour to England. As per the reports by Indian Express, the BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) is unwilling to give the leadership roles to Bumrah looking at his past injury records and wants to groom someone who will be available for all five Tests in England.

We want a player who will be available for all five Test matches: BCCI source

Jasprit Bumrah recently made his comeback on the cricket field during the ongoing IPL 2025 season. However, looking at India’s five-match Test tour in England starting on June 20, the BCCI wants to manage Bumrah’s workload due to which, the fast bowler is unlikely to play all five Test matches on the tour.

“We want a player who will be available for all five Test matches and he should be given the vice-captain’s role. Bumrah won’t be playing all five matches, so we don’t want to appoint different deputies for different games. It will be better that the captain and vice-captain should be certain and play all five Tests,” a BCCI source was quoted as saying by Indian Express.

The reports further suggest that the BCCI is looking for a young player to get appointed as a vice-captain of the Indian team in the Test format to groom a future captain. Looking at this, Shubman Gill,, who was vice-captain of the 2025 Champions Trophy winning Indian in among the top choices along with star wicket-keeper batter Rishabh Pant for the vice-captaincy of India in Tests.
