In a big update doing rounds, left-arm pacer Jaydev Unadkat has been called up to the Indian squad for the two-match Test series against Bangladesh. Unadkat, who recently starred in Saurashtra’s Vijay Hazare trophy win has been picked as Mohammed Shami’s cover.

Notably, Mohammed Shami is reportedly ruled out of the series after suffering an arm stress. The 32-year-old was also named in the ODI squad for the three-match series but was later replaced by Umran Malik after a shoulder injury.

However, talking about Jaydev Unadkat, the pacer will set a record for the lengthiest gap between two Tests played by an Indian cricketer. The record is currently held by Parthiv Patel.

Talking about Shami’s replacement in the Test squad, earlier there were reports of Navdeep Saini being called in as cover. According to reports cited by Cricbuzz, the veteran pacer has been picked on the basis of his current form. The 31-year-old ended the Vijay Hazare Trophy as the highest wicket-taker which 19 scalps from 10 games.
