England is hosting India in a five-match Test series. While the home side lead the series by 2-1 margin after they won the third Test at Lord’s by 22 runs. However, the Ben Stokes-led English side will hope to take an unassailable lead in the series, India on the other hand, are fight for a draw in the fourth Test, hoping to take the series in a nail-biter decider, set to be played from July 31 to August 4 at the Kennington Oval in London.

But with the ongoing fourth Test in Manchester moving down to the wire with India trailing by 137 runs at the end of day four’s play in their second innings and eight wickets in hand, Joe Root, who surpassed the likes of Rahul Dravid, Jacques Kallis and Ricky Ponting’s record with his 150 off 248 deliveries, is just shy of one of the greats of the game, Sachin Tendulkar.

It is to be noted that Sachin Tendulkar stands atop in the list of highest run-getters in Test cricket history with 15921 runs in 329 innings. He is followed by Joe Root, who recently claimed the second position, leapfrogging the likes of Ricky Ponting, Kallis and Dravid. Soon after Root etched into history books, a 11-year-old tweet of the English veteran went viral.

"Sachin made his debut for India before I was born. Then played in my test debut #ThankYouSachin", Root had posted on X on November 14, 2013. This tweet of has garnered mixed reactions from supporters.

With Joe Root nearing Sachin Tendulkar’s record in Test cricket, in this process, he also overtook former Australia skipper Steven Smith to smash most Test centuries against India in the longest format. Root also overtook Don Bradman to create unique record as it was his ninth Test hundred against India in home Tests, which is now most by a batter against an opponent in home matches. Sir Donald Bradman previously held the feat with eight centuries against England.
