The England Test team have been a handed a massive blow with young batter Jordan Cox suffering an injury during his team’s County Championship match. The 24-year-old, who was recently named in the England squad for the one-off historic Test now remains doubtful after he sustained an injury on third day of Essex’s Rothesay County Championship match against Somerset at Taunton.
The 24-year-old was seen going to the ground as he clutched his left side just above the hip after taking a quick single off Jack Leach as he reached 99 runs. It is to be noted that Cox has been feeling some issue in the same area while batting. Although, the England batter stayed in the middle to complete his ton and eventually retired hurt.

Seeing the nature of injury, the England batter did not take the fied for Essex in the second innings and was replaced when Somerset came out to bat. Furthermore, Essex’s captain, Tom Westley confirmed the extent of injury to Jordan Cox and said, “Jordan has a problem with his side, which our medical staff are in the process of assessing.”
"Unfortunately, because it is a Sunday it has not been possible to get the injury scanned. Hopefully, that will happen as soon as possible tomorrow and we will know a lot more then. He played a tremendous innings and it was a shame he was not able to go on," he further added. This could once again prove costly for Cox as he might miss the upcoming Zimbabwe series.
A clarity on his injury will come out soon as the England squad is expected to assemble in London next week before a training camp in Loughborough leading into a four-day Test, which will commence from May 22 at Trent Bridge.
