Former Liverpool midfielder is close to signing a deal to join AS Monaco from Ajax during the January transfer window. Although the 34-year-old midfielder was made captain of Ajax at the start of the season, he did not wear the armband during the side’s recent Europa League match against Galatasaray, thus hinting at the end of his stint. Notably, Henderson joined Ajax Saudi Arabia's Al-Ettifaq in 2023.

The midfielder has 17 league appearances and 12 in the Europa League this season. The new transfer contract with Monaco will be 18 months until 2026. Many are surprised by Henderson's departure, especially given his joy when he originally joined Ajax. According to rumors, the transaction has been concluded, and England international will begin a new chapter in Ligue 1.

Jordan Henderson's rough patch with Ajax

Although Jordan's transfer movement to AS Monaco is quite a surprise for many, his time with Ajax wasn't smooth either. Issues have emerged behind the scenes, including a spat with teammate Bertrand Traore during a Europa League game. Even though his contribution to Ajax's squad is immense, his move is seen as the desire for a fresh start with a new squad.

Monaco, presently in the Champions League knockout rounds, has created a strong push for top-tier European football, and Anderson joining the team will be a major boost. The French team is currently the youngest in Ligue 1, and the addition of Henderson's leadership abilities will further add layers to win matches.

If Monaco successfully passes through the play-offs, Henderson will face his former team Liverpool in the Champions League last 16.
