Free agent Juan Soto, who hails from Dominican Republic, is reportedly going to sign the biggest contract in the history of sport worth $765 million with the New York Mets of Major League Baseball (MLB). According to various sources, Juan Soto and the New York Mets have agreed on the terms of the 15-year contract, but it is yet to be confirmed because the 26-year-old hasn’t completed a medical for the deal to go through.

According to the MLB website, when the contract is finalised, Juan Soto will be getting a $75 million signing bonus, with no deferred money, and his deal with the New York Mets could end up being worth $800 million. With that, he is going to surpass the 10-year contract worth $700 million signed by Shohei Ohtani signed with the Los Angeles Dodgers last year, agreeing to defer $680 million of the amount, wherein the deferred money will be paid to the player after their contract runs out.

Juan Soto was part of the New York Yankees last season

Before going into free agency, Juan Soto was part of the New York Yankees last season, helping them reach the World Series 2024, which they lost 4-1 against the LA Dodgers. In the MLB postseason, the Yankees made a bid to re-sign Soto on a 16-year contract worth $760 million, but they got outbid by the Mets, which will lead to him moving across New York, to take his career to the next level.

In the 157 regular season games in the MLB last season, Juan Soto had an average of 0.288 with the New York Yankees, which included a career-high 41 home runs, apart from batting in 109 runs, which is also known as (RBI), wherein a player is involved in either scoring himself or enable a teammate to score. Meanwhile, in the World Series, he boasted a better batting average of 0.313, which included one home run and one RBI.
