New York Knicks power forward Julius Randle will reportedly undergo a season-ending shoulder surgery. Randle underwent a two-month rehabilitation to return to the team; however, the All-NBA forward will undergo surgery on his right shoulder. The basketball star has been out of action since January following a shoulder dislocation. He has been undergoing rehabilitation to resume action before the Eastern Conference playoffs.
According to ESPN, doctors warned that his instability in the shoulder made it unsafe for him to play again. The sources further stated that the player did everything possible to avoid the surgery, but he couldn’t avoid it after two specialists warned him of further injury and possibly permanent damage to the shoulder if he returned to the game before the surgical procedure.
Randle’s surgery would enable him to recover fully and return to the court before the 2024-25 season. Not only this, but the surgery will also enable him to get enough time to recover. Amidst all the rumours surfacing, the team and the player haven’t given any update about the player. The 29-year-old averaged 24 points and 9.2 rebounds. Speaking of the team, the Knicks are currently on a three-game losing streak but won seven of their previous eight games.
The Texas-born earned his third All-Star selection this year and had 19 consecutive games with a minimum of 20 points, the longest streak of his career. He had played in all of the Knicks’ 46 games before he got injured in the game against the Miami Heat. Earlier, he was voted a second-team All-NBA performer with the Knicks in 2021 and 2023, respectively.
