The Kerala Cricket Association (KCA) has taken stringent action after several remarks were directed towards the board over Indian wicketkeeper-batter Sanju Samson’s omission from the squad for the ICC Champions Trophy, an ICC major event which was played in February-March this year. In a big move, the KCA has suspended former India cricketer S Sreesanth for a period of three years, along with some legal actions against the Indian keeper’s father.

The decision from the KCA came after a special general body meeting was held on April 30 in Kochi, where along with actions against Sreesanth, the other franchises in the Kerala Premier League were also questioned and issued with a show cause notice. However, the franchises put forward their stance in the matter, no action was taken against them.

Sreesanth suspended for three years over derogatory remarks in Sanju Samson row

As per the statement issued by the KCA, “Following the controversial remarks, the KCA had issued show-cause notices to Sreesanth and the franchisee teams Kollam Aries, Alleppey Team Lead content creator Sai Krishnan, and Alleppey Ripples. As the franchisee teams gave satisfactory replies to the notice, the meeting decided not to proceed with further action against them. However, the KCA instructed the team management to be vigilant when including members.” The KCA also clarified that Sreesanth was issued the suspension for not supporting Samson, but for making misleading comments in the matter.

Additionally, the General Body has also planned to file a compensation claim against Sanju Samson’s father, Samson Viswanath and two others for making baseless remarks and allegations using the cricketer’s name.

In an interaction with Mathrubhumi.com, Samson’s father said, as quoted by TimesNow, “There are people within KCA who have something against my child, we’ve never spoken out against the association before, but this time, it’s become too much. Sanju isn’t the only one who didn’t attend the camp, yet other players in the same situation were allowed to play.”
