The former England captain, Kevin Pietersen took to Twitter earlier today to share a pic of Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi. In his tweet, he thanked the Indian head of government for his admiration of wild animals and called him a 'hero' for the work done in the country to preserve their natural habitat.
The tweet from Kevin Pietersen, which was full of appreciation for PM Modi read, “ICONIC! A world leader who adores wild animals and is so excited when spending time with them in their natural habitat. Remember, for his last birthday, he released cheetahs into the wild in India. HERO, @narendramodi.”
Pietersen, a former T20 World Cup winner, also pointed out the fact that PM Modi was instrumental in bringing back cheetahs to India last year, after 7 decades of wait. Previously, Cheetahs, the world's fastest land animal, were declared extinct in the country in the 1950s.
The South African born English cricketer has been a huge fan of PM Modi for a long time and met with him on the sidelines of The Raisina Dialogue event in New Delhi on March 3 earlier this year. He shared a tweet to mark the occasion, “An honor to speak so passionately and warmly about the release of cheetahs on your birthday, Sir @narendramodi. Thank you for your infectious smile and firm handshake. I really look forward to seeing you again, Sir!”
Kevin Pietersen has also set-up a charity of his own, SORAI, Save our Rhinos in Africa and India, to protect and rescue the rhinos who are either injured or abandoned in the wild. He has been raising awareness and educating people in India and around the world to save wild animals and preserve their natural habitat at all costs.
