Former Formula One World Champion Kimi Raikkonen's final F1 race came to an early end at the ongoing Abu Dhabi Grand Prix in Yas Marina Circuit on Sunday. While it had already been revealed that this was going to be his final race, he was forced out of early due to what is being reported as brake issues. And thus it wasn't quite the fairytale ending that the Alfa Romeo racer might have been looking for.

Earlier when Raikkonen was asked about his farewell from the sport after the race in Abu Dhabi, he stayed true to his reputation and gave a blunt reply, quite characteristic of the Finnish racer. Notably, the start today at the final Grand Prix of the season marked his 349th start but the 42-year-old failed to make it count.

I have zero plans after final Formula 1 race: Raikkonen

"I'm looking forward to when it's done (his F1 career and the race)," he had claimed at the press conference preceding the season finale GP.

"I have zero plans and I don't think about anything. If there is an interesting proposal, we'll see," he had added.

I have mixed feelings: Valtteri Bottas

Meanwhile, the race is also the final one for Valtteri Bottas for the Mercedes.

"I think in this sport you’re never fully satisfied but yeah, in five years, I’ve achieved something and I’m sure that will help me in the future," Bottas stated as quoted in Formula One's official website.

"[I have] mixed feelings. Obviously, when I joined the team in 2017, the only thing on my mind was to win the drivers’ championship," he added.

"That didn’t happen but I need to look at the positives; I’ve grown so much as a driver and as a human being, we’ve learned so much as a team and actually achieved some pretty cool things together, also many, many positives that I will take on board," he further stated.

As far as the race is concerned, in what was the perfect final between Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen, it was Max who won the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, taking his maiden F1 title.
