Rajasthan Royals pulled off the highest chase in IPL history as they scored 224 to beat the Kolka ta Knight Riders by two wickets. The star of the chase was England star Jos Buttler, who smashed a brilliant century to overshadow Sunil Narine's 109 and 2-30 with the ball. This win helped RR consolidate their spot on the top of the table as they have 12 points from seven games.
After losing the toss, the Kolkata Knight Riders got off to a sluggish start as the in-form Phil Salt was sent back thanks to a brilliant caught and bowled by Avesh Khan. But after this dismissal, Sunil Narine and youngster Angkrish Raghuvanshi started the flow of runs and posted a quick-fire 85-run stand.
Through this partnership, Narine reached his second half-century of the season in 29 balls. Though Raghuvanshi got out, the veteran West Indian continued his big-hitting form and completed his maiden career century in 49 balls.
Soon after his ton, Sunil Narine was cleaned up by Trent Boult at a score of 109 in 56 balls with 13 fours and six sixes. After Narine's departure, KKR ensured the finish strong with Rinku Singh's nine-ball 20 helping post a 226-run total. For Rajasthan, Avesh Khan was the pick of the bowlers with 2-35 in four overs.
Then in the second innings, Rajasthan also struggled as they lost wickets but managed to keep the scoring rates thanks to quick cameos by Yashasvi Jaiswal, Sanju Samson and Riyan Parag. As the wickets held down the run-scoring, the pressure kept building on Rajasthan and the scoring rate went down.
But in the final five overs, thanks to Rovman Powell's 26 in 13 balls and Jos Buttler's magnificent 107 in 60 balls with nine fours and six sixes powered Rajasthan Royals to an unthinkable win. This was Buttler's second century of the 2024 season after his ton against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru in Jaipur.
