India and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) spinner Varun Chakaravarthy has posted a picture through his Instagram story which shows him with Abhishek Nayar, who has reportedly been sacked as Team India’s assistant coach. After the news of Nayar’s termination emerged, only Chakaravarthy has reacted from the Team India camp. According to sources, Nayar is relieved from his duties following India’s humiliating performances in Test series against New Zealand at home in October 2024 and the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25, held in Australia.
Chakaravarthy’s post is alluding that Nayar might have joined Kolkata Knight Riders' (KKR) camp in the mid Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season. The spin wizard and Nayar worked together in KKR before collaborating in Team India. Back in 2020, when Chakaravarthy was picked up by Kolkata, Nayar was the head of the KKR academy. In 2024, KKR won their third title and Varun played a vital role with his 21 wickets in 15 matches. Nair was the assistant coach during their successful campaign. With the speculations of Abhishek joining KKR, Varun’s captionless story has grabbed a lot of eyeballs.
KKR to take on Gujarat Titans in Ahmedabad on April 21
KKR will clash against Gujarat Titans (GT) at the Narendra Modi Stadium on April 21. Under Shubman Gill’s captaincy, Gujarat have looked disciplined while KKR have looked inconsistent this season which has catapulted them in the sixth spot on the points tally with three wins and four losses.
In their previous match, Kolkata failed to chase a mere 112 runs against Punjab Kings (PBKS) in Mohali and lost the game by 15 runs. Ajinkya Rahane will expect his batters to ship up against GT to bounce back in the tournament. The KKR captain will also keep his expectations high from spinners Chakaravarthy and Sunil Narine.
