As the preparatory camp of Team India for the Asia Cup 2023 moved to its second day at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru, great news has come out for cricket fans with regard to the fitness of KL Rahul. On August 26, Saturday, Star Sports, the broadcaster of the Asia Cup, revealed that the 31-year-old started wicket-keeping practice after he had suffered a niggle while recovering from a thigh surgery.

KL Rahul has been a valuable asset for Team India in the ODI format in the past few years, while batting in the middle order and taking the responsibility of being a wicket-keeper, to increase the depth of the squad. Since his unfortunate injury, the national team has missed a solid option in the middle order, who can resurrect the innings with the fall of early wickets and accelerate the scoring rate in the death overs.

Apart from KL Rahul working hard behind the stumps, the second day of the preparatory camp also saw Rohit Sharma face up against the left-arm fast bowlers, while Virat Kohli played aggressively against the spinners. Also, the pairings of KL Rahul and Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Shreyas Iyer, Virat Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja batted together to get a better understanding among themselves before the continental cricket tournament begins.

With the positive development in regards to the fitness of KL Rahul, the travelling reserve for the upcoming Asia Cup, Sanju Samson, might not have a huge role to play, especially with Ishan Kishan, another wicket-keeping option also present in the squad. The Indian team management will be hoping that the 31-year-old keeps on improving his fitness on a daily basis, to play the first match of the continental tournament for the country against Pakistan on September 2.
