The Men in Blue have been handed another massive news ahead of the upcoming Sri Lanka series. The two neighbouring countries are set to lock horns in three-match T20I series followed by an ODI series. The bilateral series will start with the T20Is, starting January 3 in Mumbai.

Ahead of the T20I series, a big update has come from the Indian cricket board. Team India opener KL Rahul is set to miss the series. The stand-in skipper recently won the Test series for the first time as skipper in the recently concluded Bangladesh Tests.

The Karnataka-born cricketer is expected to be dropped for the T20I squad for the upcoming Sri Lanka series. This comes after he was struggling with form in the shortest format of the game. Rahul, who has managed to score only 434 runs has a strike rate of 126.53 across 16 matches that he played in 2022.

Rohit too to miss Sri Lanka series with thumb injury

Team India skipper Rohit Sharma will also continue to miss the Sri Lanka series as he has so far failed to regain fitness. However, he was lately seen practicing in the nets, but no major update on his inclusion in the Sri Lanka series has come. The 35-year-old had injured his thumb in the second ODI against Bangladesh and was then ruled out of the remainder of the series, with KL Rahul taking charge as skipper.
