KL Rahul is not going through a good time as the batter has been out of cricketing action since the conclusion of the IPL 2022. First, KL Rahul missed the five-match T20I series against South Africa in which he was selected to lead the team. The 30-year-old then missed the entire England tour as he flew to Germany to undergo groin surgery.
And now, when he was recovering well at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru and has been named in India’s T20I squad for five-match T20I series against West Indies, the batter has tested positive for COVID-19. The news about KL Rahul testing positive for COVID-19 was confirmed by BCCI President Sourav Ganguly after the BCCI’s Apex Council meeting concluded in Mumbai.
According to Kushan Sarkar of PTI, Ganguly told the reporters that Rahul has tested positive for the virus. “Senior batter KL Rahul @klrahul has tested positive for #COVID19: @BCCI president @SGanguly99 told reporters after Apex Council Meeting,” tweeted Sarkar.
This comes a day after reports emerged that Rahul can also lead the Indian team in Zimbabwe later in August. A PTI report claimed that the 30-year-old who has previously captained the side (against South Africa in January-February this year), can be handed the responsibility to lead India in the three-match ODI series against Zimbabwe.
As, the regular captain of Team India, Rohit Sharma is expected to take some rest before the important Asia Cup scheduled for August-September, Rahul, the vice-captain of the team can lead the side.
Notably, India will tour Zimbabwe for the first time in six years for a three-match ODI series that starts on August 18. Zimbabwe cricket confirmed a few days back that India and Zimbabwe will play the three ODIs on 18, 20, and 22 August at the Harare Sports Club.
