It is to be noted that his request comes a week prior to the trade deadline date, speculating the possibility of his trade with the franchise. Irving’s request comes after talks of his new contract did not go as per his likings, a person told The Associated Press, as reported by ESPN and The Athletic.
Notably, Kyrie Irving is eligible for a contract extension, but the Nets have refused to give him one last summer. Irving's agent and stepmother, Shetellia Irving told a media outlet (Bleacher Report) that she had reached out to the Nets regarding a new deal.
“I have reached out to the Nets regarding this. We have had no significant conversations to date. The desire is to make Brooklyn home, with the right type of extension, which means the ball is in the Nets’ court to communicate now if their desire is the same,” Shetellia Irving told Bleacher Report.
However, his trade from Nets still remains unclear, the All-Star guard shared a post on Twitter as the first reports of the trade request came out, stating, “To my Peers: JUST BE YOURSelf and GROW! Keep people around who CELEBRATE YOU unconditionally and appreciates all of the hard work that gets put up.”
