India shuttler Lakshya Sen was eliminated from the 2025 Thailand Open after facing a crushing defeat in the opening round. In the intriguing men’s singles game against Ireland’s Nhat Nguyen that was played for one hour and 20 minutes, he recorded a defeat of 18-21, 21-9, 17-21. Following the loss in the first game, Sen made a comeback in the second round. He got the better of the Irish with fierce rallies. However, the defeat in the second round didn’t shatter Nguyen’s confidence as he held his nerves and stood tall against Lakshya to bag a spectacular triumph. Nguyen ranks 34th in the Badminton World Federation (BWF) rankings.

Along with Lakshya, Priyanshu Rajawat also crashed out of the tournament after appearing in the first round. The 23-year-old shuttler lost his contest against Indonesia’s Alwi Farhan, who racked up a 13-21, 21-17, 16-21 to win against the youngster.

Unnati Hooda and Aakarshi Kashyap advance to the next round

Unnati Hooda won against Thailand’s Thamonwan Nithiittikrai in a more than an hour-long match and registered 21-14, 18-21, 23-21 figures to win a spot in the second round of the event. Hooda will next take on Thamonwan’s counterpart Pornpawee Chochuwong in the upcoming round. Aakarshi Kashyap faced a tough challenge against Japan’s Kaoru Sugiyama but the 23-year-old held her nerves and emerged victorious eventually with a margin of 21-16, 20-22, 22-20.

Kashyap will square off against fourth-seed Supanida Katethong in the next round. Another Indian shuttler Rakshitha Ramraj couldn’t deliver her best which led to her loss by 18-21, 7-21 at the hands of eighth-seeded Singapore’s Yeo Jia Min in the women’s singles opener. Eyes will be set on other Indian shuttlers, Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand, who will be seen in action in the double’s game against C Ting and XY Ong.
