Larry Nassar, the disgraced former USA gymnastics doctor, has been reportedly stabbed multiple times at a federal prison in Florida. The 59-year-old, who has been convicted of sexually assaulting women gymnasts, was involved in an altercation with another imprisoned person on July 9, Sunday.
The two people, who spoke with The Associated Press on the condition of anonymity, stated that the attack happened at the United States Penitentiary Coleman in Florida on Sunday. They went on to mention that Nassar was in stable condition on Monday while confirming that the investigation of the incident is now ongoing. One of them also revealed that the serial child molester was stabbed in the back and in the chest.
Notably, Larry Nassar is currently serving decades in prison for convictions in both the federal and state courts. In 2017, he was sentenced to 60 years in prison on the charges of child pornography. Then, in the following year, the former sports medicine physician was sentenced to a minimum of 40 years and a maximum of 175 years in prison for sexually assaulting women gymnasts, which included Olympic medalists, at Michigan State University and at Indianapolis-based USA Gymnastics.
In addition, Nassar pleaded guilty to three counts of sexual assault in Eaten County, Michigan, for which he received an additional punishment, which is a minimum of 40 years and a maximum of 125 years in Michigan State Prison.
Several gymnasts testified against Larry Nassar in 2018 to have him put behind bars
In 2018, more than 300 girls and women gymnasts, including the likes of Olympians Simone Biles and Aly Raisman accused the former USA gymnastics doctor of abusing them under the guise of treating them medically for over two decades. They also managed to get a $500 million settlement from Michigan State University and a $380 million settlement from USA Gymnastics and the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Committee for their failure to stop the sexual assault.
