Although Prithvi Shaw has been added in the squad for T20Is against New Zealand, starting from January 27 (Friday) in Ranchi, the young batter is unlikely to feature in the playing XI.

The talented youngster had a topsy-turvy ride on the international stage and in a short span, he has experienced a slump in form, getting dropped due to injury, a doping ban, and the tag of being ‘overweight.’ Shaw has only featured in a limited number of games so far and last played for India under the captaincy of Shikhar Dhawan during Sri Lanka tour in 2021.

However, Prithvi Shaw set the domestic season on fire with a series of impressive knocks for his state team Mumbai and on that basis, he has been included in Team India. While Indian skipper Hardik Pandya made it clear that Shubman Gill and Ishan Kishan will be preferred openers in the squad, Prithvi Shaw recently opened up on his inclusion in the team.

While speaking to BCCI.TV, Shaw admitted that he was extremely delighted to hear about his inclusion in the squad and expressed gratitude towards his friends and family for their constant support.

“I started getting a lot of calls and messages. My phone was getting hanged. I got curious to know what happened. But when I came to know about my name in the squad, I was happy to be back,” Prithvi said. The 23-year-old further admitted that the last 18 months were tough for him but thanked everyone in his life for supporting him.

“I am surrounded by good people in my life. They have always supported me and inspired me to do well. Even when I am not playing for India their approach towards me always remains the same,” Shaw added.
