After the news of Gregg Popovich signing a new five-year contract worth $80 million with the San Antonio Spurs arrived, LeBron James sent out a congratulatory tweet to the winningest coach in the NBA, during the early hours of July 9, Sunday. With this whopping deal, the 74-year-old has become the richest coach in the league, going past Monty Williams of the Detroit Pistons, who had signed a six-year-long $78.5 million contract last month.

The San Antonio Spurs made the announcement about getting Gregg Popovich on board as the President of Basketball operations and head coach in a two-line press release, without releasing the terms of the contract on July 8, Saturday. The speculation about “Coach Pop” staying with the team had become rampant after they managed to sign Victor Wembanyama as the first overall pick in the NBA Draft 2023 last month.

Notably, in his message to Gregg Popovich, the Los Angeles Lakers power forward congratulated him on signing the new deal, while putting the next wine dinner on him. His tweet read, “POP!!!!!! Congrats on the new deal. Next wine dinner on you”.

Peach Jam, known as one of the best places for displaying the best young basketball players in the world, was graced by the presence of LeBron James and Rajon Rondo. Both these NBA superstars were part of the 2023 event as coaches to provide their knowledge and expertise of playing basketball throughout their illustrious careers.  The son of LeBron James, named Bryce, and his squad, are also taking part in Pearl Jam 2023.
