The F1 2021 season is approaching the business end and the fans are witnessing an incredibly close fight in the championship battle with Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen taking the title down the wire. Amid such an exciting season, the Brazilian GP 2021 produced something extremely spectacular at Interlagos.
Lewis Hamilton finished first in qualifying on Friday but was disqualified due to a technical infringement. As a result, he started Saturday's sprint from the last position in the grid but drive brilliantly to finish P5. However, he was forced to start Sunday's main race at P10 as he had changed his engine for the weekend.
But much to everyone's surprise, the Mercedes driver produced one of the best-ever drives ever seen on an F1 track as he overtook everyone to eventually clinch a historic win in Sau Paulo. Following his victory, he cut down the gap to Verstappen at the top of the standings to 14 points.
Mercedes 'Right of Review' denied by stewards
While it was Hamilton who stole the show, there was one more incident that became a major talking point for everyone involving the two championship contenders. On lap 48, when Hamilton was trying to take overtake Verstappen, the Dutchman ran wide off the track taking the Brit along the same path as he held on to his position.
Although Hamilton eventually went past him on lap 59, their incident came under the radar where various new footages came out later. The stewards had taken no action against Verstappen during the race and while Mercedes requested for 'Right of Review', the stewards denied them again and the whole saga came to an end.
Ahead of the Qatar GP, Hamilton was once again asked by media about what he felt about the incident with Verstappen. After taking a pause for a while, the Brit came up with a very cheeky response as he said, "I won."
The Brit admitted that it was a difficult weekend (considering all the penalties) and he looked rather satisfied to keep himself alive in the race of winning his 8th F1 championship.
