One of the rarest moments in cricket took place during the 2024-25 Big Bash League fixture between Adelaide Strikers and Brisbane Heat at Adelaide Oval on Saturday, January, 11. Making his BBl debut for the Strikers, Liam Haskett got smashed by Nathan McSweeney in the 16th over. However, a fan from the crowd took a catch on McSweeney’s six against Haskett. Later, it was revealed that the fan is none other than debutant Haskett’s father.

During the 16th over of Brisbane Heat’s innings, Nathan McSweeney smashed Adelaide Strikers’ debutant Liam Haskett for a six. After that, Haskett’s father took a catch from the stands which caught the attention of the fans. Haskett went on to concede 43 runs and take two wickets in his BBL debut for Adelaide Strikers. 

Adelaide Strikers smash 2nd highest BBL total, Matt Short shines with ton

Adelaide Strikers posted the second highest team score in BBL history in a match against  Brisbane Heat. Batting first, the Strikers smashed 251/5 in their 20 overs with Matt Short smashing 109(54) runs hitting 10 fours and seven sixes. They were 22 runs short off Melbourne Stars’ total of 273/2 in 2022. In reply to Sixers’ mammoth total, Brisbane Heat were bowled out for 195 runs in 20 overs. Apart from Matt Short’s ton, Chris Lynn smashed  47(20) runs while Alex Ross gave finishing touches with 44*(19) runs. 

Chasing the winning target, Nathan McSweeney top scored with 43(24) runs while Matt Renshaw scored 34(16) runs. Apart from that, none of the batters could play a big knock as Brisbane Heat fell short off 51 runs from Adelaide Strikers total. For the Strikers, D’Arcy Short  took 4 scalps, Liam Haskett and Lloyd Pope scalped two wickets while  Jordan Buckingham put  one in his bag.
