At first, it seemed that only Rahul Dravid, true to his quintessential abilities of being 'The Wall for Team India' would stay right on top and perhaps untouched when it came to pouching most number of catches in Test match cricket.

However, that was until when Joe Root came closer and became a monument of consistency and infallible focus, to an extent that where it stands right now, the right handed batting legend has drawn level with Dravid when it comes to grabbing the most number of catches for the England team.

Interestingly, that Joe Root has grabbed the most number of catches ever taken by any active or past Test match cricketer (not just from England) in ten fewer games than the Indian icon that the lanky cricketer finds himself right on top of the table in terms of most catches taken.

It really is a testament to Root's unfailing genius as a fielder, someone who was often in the slips particularly at the start of his career to ultimately proving himself as an agile marksman in the outfield.

What also ought to be noted is that Joe Root claimed his 200th catch in the form of taking a focused grab of Shardul Thakur off Josh Tongue's bowling.

As the Test series ensues, it will be really interesting to note as to how many more catches will Joe Root be able to take with several Tests still to be played. He now, moreover, finds himself on a really checkered list with some interesting and remarkable list of former Test cricketers with the only exception as an active cricketer being Steve Smith, who is still enduring for the Aussies in red-ball cricket.

But to overtake legendary outfielders in red-ball cricket such as Jacques Kallis and even Mahela Jayawardene is a feat truly exceptional. Make no mistake - there is Ricky Ponting in there as well and what could be better than being right on top of the tree ahead of these big icons of the game?

Having said that, while Root's incredible skill with red-ball cricket as a fielder are undoubtable, as a batter, he is yet to demonstrate great skill as per normal with the bat. One could say, he missed out on scoring big runs in the ongoing Headingley Test but with many more contests to follow, the great man with north of 13,000 runs to his name will make useful runs for England's cause.
