Ahead of the IPL 2023 fixture between Kolkata Knight Riders and Chennai Super Kings, MS Dhoni and his Yellow Army saw huge support in the Eden Gardens. Acknowledging the fans, MS Dhoni thanked the crowd at the toss.

Further being asked about how the fans are cheering for him, Dhoni spoke about his roots. He stated how he used to work in  Kharagpur for the railways, which is two hours away from Kolkata and hence people in Eden Gardens are supporting him.

He said, "Would've bowled first as well. Players have grown in confidence, especially the bowling department. What is important is for everyone to contribute. Take that one good catch, one good run out. I have played a lot of cricket over here. I had a job at Kharagpur which was two hours from here. The love comes from there."

But the true reason behind this massive support for MS Dhoni at every away stadium the    Chennai Super Kings play is that this could be his last season.  As per many speculations, this is set to be Dhoni’s final IPL as he himself also referred it in the previous game.

While speaking at the post-match presentation after the game against Sunrisers Hyderabad, he described the season as the last phase of his career. He said, “Whatever said and done, it’s the last phase of my career, however long I play. It’s important to enjoy it. After two years, the fans have had the opportunity to come here and watch, feels good to be here. The crowd has given us a lot of love and affection. Not getting enough chances to bat, but no complaints."
