The 15th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) is just a few days away. Teams have already started their preparations for the mega event. The tournament opener will be played between the finalists of the last edition- Chennai Super Kings and Kolkata Knight Riders. While CSK have set their camp in Surat, KKR players have reached Mumbai to get accustomed to the conditions before their first game.
Wicketkeeper batter Sam Billings has also joined the KKR camp in Mumbai. On his arrival, the England cricketer also spoke about how he feels playing in the Indian Premier League and also gave an insight into his preparations. Billings called IPL the biggest domestic tournament in the world and also said that he loves playing in India.
"Sam Hai Taiyaar. KKR Hai Taiyaar. I think the IPL is the biggest domestic tournament in the world. You don't need to say anything more than that. It's my sixth year and absolutely love playing over here in India. I think the support, the fans take it to a completely different dimension to any other sport in the world," said Billings.
"You've got 1.2 billion people or so. And everyone absolutely loves cricket. So it's a pleasure for players to play here. It's an honor to play here," he added.
Will Billings get more chances in IPL 2022?
Sam Billings is among those overseas players who have got very few chances for their franchises. Despite being a regular in England's T20I lineup, Billings has not featured in any IPL game since 2019. He has been warming the bench for CSK and DC for the last three years. The stylish batter has managed only 22 games in four years and has aggregated 334 runs.
Now, he has been roped in by KKR and will hope to get more chances. KKR don't have many wicketkeeping options and thus Billings will fancy his chances of getting a place in the playing XI. However, being an overseas cricketer may work against him as KKR will have Narine, Russell, and Cummins as three regular overseas players.
