As India celebrated the festival of Diwali on Thursday, there were several sporting stars from all round the globe wishing their fans from this part of the world on the festival of lights. However, there was a series of social media messages from UFC superstar Conor McGregor which has melted the Indian hearts. He even termed the Indian population "the most respectful and caring."

The former two-division UFC champion first took to the micro-blogging website to wish his Indian fans. Not only did he share a special message on Diwali for his fans but also praised the Indian doctors and healthcare professionals. He said that he has encountered a lot of Indian doctors and nurses in his life.

"The amount of Indian doctors and nurses I’ve encountered over this lifetime of violence. They just have complete care, peace and love in their soul! India I love you," he said in a message.

Apart from the abovementioned messages on social media, The Notorious even praised the spirit of India, sharing his views on the Indian MMA scenario. He even tweeted a picture of Ritu Phogat while lauding India's MMA journey. Phogat had recently secured a place in the final of the ONE Championship Women's Atom Weight Grand Prix.

She will now face Stamp Fairtex from Thailand at the Grand Prix final on December 3.

Irish Mixed Martial Artist Conor McGregor has remained on the sidelines ever since his third fight against Dustin Poirier earlier in the year. However, there is still no clarity on who he will face once he returns to action. During the time away from fights, he has in fact received a significant number of call-outs from several fighters and he himself has challenged a few others but none of the fights have been confirmed.

Another such name has popped up recently and that happens to be America's Max Holloway. It started after journalist Sean Sheehan had put up a picture with a caption, "Reply with the last MMA picture on your phone." To this, The Notorious replied with a picture of his fight against Holloway in which the latter looked terrified. However, what has made headlines is the fact that the former featherweight champion also has responded to the post with a comment, "we got it, March."

However, there is still confirmation awaited for any concrete development in this regard.
