But then stand-in captain Nicholas Pooran combined with De Kock and then partnered Krunal Pandya as they carried Lucknow to a respectable score.
Pooran eventually got out after a 21-ball 42 but Pandya ensured a strong finish as he remained not out at 43 in 22 balls to take the Super Giants to 199. For Punjab, Sam Curran picked up three wickets while giving away 28 runs.
Unlike Lucknow, the Kings were off to a blistering start with Shikhar Dhawan and Jonny Bairstow posting an incredible 102-run stand. But with a blistering spell by a newcomer Mayank Yadav where he picked up three wickets and broke the back of the chase. This bowling effort combined with a poor effort ensured that Punjab Kings fell short towards the end and suffered a 21-run loss.
