One of the most prominent NBA teams, Los Angeles (LA) Lakers secured the services of their superstar Luka Doncic. The Lakers point guard on Saturday, August 2 put pen to papers, inking a new three-year extension in a deal worth USD 165 million. It is to be noted that the contract extension came only after being traded into the Lakers side earlier this year in February.

However, his contract extension of three years will keep him hooked at the Los Angeles side for next three years through to 2028. The deal came after the Slovenian averaged 28.2 points, 8.1 rebounds and 7.5 assists in his first 28 games wearing purple and gold.

Luka Doncic signs record USD 165 million three-year extension at LA Lakers

Lakers President Rob Pelinka announced Luka Doncic’s three-year, $165 million extension, complete with a player option for 2028, stating, “Today is a monumental moment for our franchise. Luka Doncic’s future is with the Los Angles Lakers. This is just the beginning.” Notably, this structure allows him to become a free agent after his tenth NBA season.

Doncic also echoed the optimism, saying he was excited to build something special in Los Angeles. “I’m really grateful to the Lakers organisation, my teammates and the fans for welcoming me and my family with so much support and kindness since day one,” said Doncic.

“This is an amazing organisation, and I truly believe in what we’re building together. I’m going to keep working as hard as I can to bring another championship to Los Angeles and to make Laker Nation proud. This is just the beginning,” he added.
