Grandmaster Magnus Carlsen, along with his wife Ella Victoria Malone, has announced that he and his spouse are expecting their first child together. The couple, who got hitched in January 2025, shared the update through a social media post on May 12. The announcement wasn’t a surprise for his fans as Ella was visibly pregnant while accompanying Carlsen for the tournaments in Paris and Karlsruhe in March and April respectively. Ella was first seen with the Norwegian in 2024 during the Freestyle Chess G.O.A.T Championship held in Germany.

Carlsen took to Instagram and posted a picture of his wife displaying the baby bump. "My beautiful pregnant wife," the 34-year-old wrote while addressing his 1.8 million followers on the social media platform. In December 2024, when Ella was asked about starting a family, she said, "As soon as time allows. He has a busy schedule. I am not sure how we are going to manage the travelling with kids, but it's definitely something we both want.” On talking about Carlsen in the role of father, she added, "He is going to be an amazing father!"
