
The famous controversial jeans of Norway Grandmaster Magnus Carlsen has now been sold at a whopping price of $36100 i.e.₹31 Lakhs after getting 94 bids on ebay. Notably, Carlsen put up the size-32 regular-fit Corneliani jeans for Big Brothers Big Sisters charity. The world number 1 grabbed the headlines when he was fined for wearing the jeans during the FIDE World Rapid Championship in December 2024.
Magnus Carlsen had quit the tournament in mid way after he wasn’t allowed to wear the jeans during the match. Carleson said that he would change the jeans for the next day’s play but the chief arbiter didn’t allow this and wanted him to change the jeans on the same day. Due to this, the Norwegian chess grandmaster decided to leave the championship midway before playing at the FIDE World Blitz Championship.
Magnus Carlsen list his jeans for auction at $8,000, to use money for Brothers Big Sisters program
After Magnus Carlsen decided to step down from the FIDE World Championship, his controversial jeans caught the attention of the fans. After a month of the incident. Magnus decided to put his jeans for the auction at a price of $8000 i.e. ₹6.93 lakhs and clarified that all the money collected from the auction will go to the Big Brothers Big Sisters program, a charity that supports youth mentorship.
“The forbidden jeans - can now be yours. I am auctioning my jeans. A sentence I never thought I would write. But here we are,” Magnus Carlsen said as quoted in Firstpost.
Carlsen was recently seen playing Weissenhaus Freestyle Chess Grand Slam Tour 2025. He finished in the third position in that tournament after defeating Javokhir Sindarov. German chess grandmaster ended up winning the tournament defeating Italian Fabiano Caruana in the final.
