March 1, 2022, is being celebrated as Maha Shivratri. The holy occasion is celebrated by Hindus in India and around the world with many devotees observing a fast on the auspicious day. With 2022 witnessing a tough time with regards to the pandemic and the political tension between Ukraine and Russia and its impact on the rest of the world, many prayers on this day will be for the healing of the world and its people.

Social media is already flooded with messages for one of the oldest festivals of India. Members of the cricket fraternity have also extended their wishes on the pious occasion with the likes of Virender Sehwag and Harbhajan Singh wishing the best to their friends, fans and followers.

"May Lord Shiva shower upon you all his choicest blessings. May happiness and peace surround you with His eternal love and strength. Wishing you a very Happy #MahaShivratri," former India batter and current head of the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru, VVS Laxman posted.

"Greetings on the special occasion of #Mahashivratri. May lord Shiva bless us with strength to face every challenge we get in the upcoming days. Har Har Mahadev ?," Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary Jay Shah tweeted.

Meanwhile, Ajinkya Rahane, who was recently axed from the Test team due to poor form and is participating in the Ranji trophy also took to Twitter to extend his wishes. "May Lord Shiva shower his ultimate blessings upon all of us. Happy Mahashivratri to everyone ??," he tweeted.
