On Thursday, March 7, the trailer of the new patriotic sports film called “Maidaan,” was released online, wherein the Bollywood actor Ajay Devgn was spotted playing the role of a tough football coach. Maidaan is based on a true story of an unknown footballing hero, Syed Abdul Rahim, who took Indian football to its glorious days in the 20th century.

The Maidaan trailer begins with Ajay Devgn’s character narrating the potential of Indian football which is yet to be realised. Despite many challenges in his way, he goes on to build a team of football players, including youngsters from slum areas, before training them to be the world’s best.

Ajay Devgn’s character also hints at quitting his role of coaching the team if he fails to deliver results at the Asian Games. The emotional trailer of Maidaan portrays that the film is quite similar to the highly popular Indian sports movies like Chak De India starring Shah Rukh Khan and Gold from Akshay Kumar.

Amit Ravindernath Sharma is the Director of Maidaan, while it is being co-produced by Boney Kapoor and Zee Studios. Some of the other stars in the film apart from Ajay Devgn are Priyamani, Gajraj Rao, and Bengali actor Rudranil Ghosh.

After multiple delays in recent times, Maidaan is scheduled to get a theatrical release during Eid this year.
