Rajat Kumar became a known figure in December 2022 after saving India wicket-keeper batter Rishabh Pant, who had a horrific car accident on December 30, 2022. Pant’s rescuer attempted to kill himself on February 9 after consuming poison with his girlfriend Manu Kashyap in Uttar Pradesh’s Muzaffarnagar district.
Kumar along with his 21-year-old girlfriend took the horrendous step after the families of two refused to accept their relationship. Ms Kashyap couldn’t be saved through the treatment and Rajat is in severe condition. The caste difference between Ms Kashyap and Kumar didn’t get a nod from their families and their kins also fixed their marriages elsewhere. Rejection and the fear of separation forced both to commit suicide. Following Ms Kashyap’s death, her mother has accused Mr Kumar of abducting and poisoning her.
Notably, Rajat Kumar along with a local Nishu Kumar rescued Rishabh Pant from a terrible car accident over two years ago. Star Indian player's Mercedes collided into a divider when he was returning to his home Uttarakhand from Delhi. Pant’s car also caught fire. Noting Pant’s struggle, both Nishu and Rajat broke into the scene to help the young cricketer come out of his burning car. They also arranged an emergency medical help which later played a crucial role in saving Pant’s life. Impressed by their courage, Pant also gifted them scooters.
Rishabh Pant will be seen in Champions Trophy 2025
Rishabh Pant, who has played only one ODI game after returning from the accident, will next be seen in the Champions Trophy 2025 to be hosted by Pakistan and Dubai. During the three-match ODI series between India and England, he didn’t get a chance to feature in the hosts’ playing XI. KL Rahul was given the responsibility to serve the side as a stumper-batter.
The 27-year-old’s ODI numbers are amazing as the southpaw has accumulated 871 runs with a ton and five fifties in 27 innings of 31 matches.
