Manchester United forward Mason Greenwood has been arrested by Greater Manchester Police on suspicion of rape and assault. The development comes after the 20-year-old forward was accused of domestic abuse & sexual assault by a girl named Harriet Robson (Instagram @hasrobson), who is believed to be his ex-girlfriend. Harriet shared shocking photos of her bruises on social media, in order to support her claim.

The news will come as a big blow for Manchester United manager Ralf Rangnick and the rest of the United players as the club tries to achieve a top four finish this season.

The statement by Greater Manchester Police reads: ‘Greater Manchester Police were made aware earlier today of online social media images and videos posted by a woman reporting incidents of physical violence. An investigation was launched. Following enquiries we can confirm a man in his 20s has since been arrested on suspicion of rape and assault. He remains in custody for questioning. Enquiries are ongoing.’

Piers Morgan confirms the arrest

Broadcaster Piers Morgan confirmed the news on his Twitter account He tweeted: ‘BREAKING: England & Manchester United footballer Mason Greenwood arrested on suspicion of rape and assault.’

Meanwhile, Manchester United said that Greenwood “will not return to training or play matches until further notice".

“Manchester United does not condone violence of any kind,” the club added.

Mason Greenwood has not yet responded to the allegations.
