Manchester United secured a 3-1 win over struggling Newcastle to return to second place in the Premier League points table. Marcus Rashford's 30th minute goal was cancelled out by Allan Sain-Maximin's 36th minute goal, but Daniel James and Bruno Fernandes scored in the second-half to ensure a comfortable victory. This was only the second win for the Red Devils' in six league matches.

Stuttering start from the Red Devils

United did get off to a stuttering start but the English striker Rashford made up for it when he slotted his 18th goal of the season by beating Karl Darlow at the near post at the half an hour mark. Sain-Maximin scored an equaliser in what was his first goal since coming back from a two-month break owing to COVID-19 symptoms.

Man United moved to second place, 10 points behind leaders Man City

Although the scores we levelled at 1-1 in the first half, Daniel James first scored in the 57th minute to help United take the lead before Rashford earned a penalty as he drew a foul from Joe Willock to set up Bruno Fernandes goal from the spot kick. The result implies that the Steve Bruce's side is only three points above the drop zone, falling to their eighth defeat in 10 Premier League matches.

Although Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side have reached the second place in the Premier League tally, they remain 10 points behind leaders and title favourites
