In a recent development, England and Wales Cricket Board have informed that ICC Match Referee Phil Whitticase has tested positive for COVID-19. Whitticase recently officiated during the 3-match T20I series between England and Sri Lanka. He is currently asymptomatic and is doing well. Whitticase will now observe a period of 10-days of self-isolation from 25 June, in accordance with the UK Government’s protocol on quarantine.

7 other match officials & anti-corruption unit team members were deemed close contacts of the Match Referee. As a result, they will also have to self-isolate for 10-days.

England vs Sri Lanka 1st ODI to go ahead as planned

No member from the England and Sri Lanka team was impacted. ECB also assured that alternative arrangements will be put in place to ensure Tuesday’s ODI goes ahead as planned. Sri Lanka suffered horrendous defeats in all three T20I matches against England, which eventually led to Sri Lanka’s fifth consecutive series loss in T20Is.
