Australia spinner Matthew Kuhnemann on Wednesday, February 12 was reported for suspected bowling action, as confirmed by Cricket Australia. Kuhnemann, who played a crucial role in the recently concluded two-match Test series against Sri Lanka in Galle, have been called by the International Cricket Council (ICC) for his bowling action.
The Aussie spinner, who joined the Australian squad in Galle after recovering from an injury, claimed 16 wickets across the two Tests, which saw Australia whitewash the hosts by 2-0 margin. However, Cricket Australia confirmed that they will not make any statement around this until Kuhnemann has been cleared to bowl again.

To find if the the left-armer’s action is legitimate or not, the 28-year-old will need to undergo obligatory tests. A Cricket Australia spokesperson recently confirmed on this update, adding, "The Australian team was notified of the match officials' referral following the second Test against Sri Lanka in Galle and will support Matt through the process of clearing this matter."
The CA spokesperson also clarified that it is the first time that the Aussie spinner has been questioned for his bowling action. "Cricket Australia will liaise closely with the ICC and independent experts in line with ICC regulations. No further comment will be made by Cricket Australia or Matthew until the matter is resolved," he further added in a statement shared by Cricbuzz.
It is to be noted that Matthew Kuhnemann has played 124 professional matches since his debut in 2017, including five Test matches and four ODIs. He has played 55 Big Bash League games since 2018. However, he will remain suspended from bowling in international cricket, but can continue playing for his state team Tasmania in the domestic cricket calendar.
