With all sorts of speculation regarding Lionel Messi's Ligue 1 debut with the Paris Saint-Germain, manager Mauricio Pochettino has finally revealed when the star Argentine can make his debut. Pochettino disclosed that the former Barcelona captain, who joined the club on a free transfer earlier in the summer, might make his debut as early as this weekend as he has been training well with his new teammates.

While PSG were quick to finalise the deal with the six-time Ballon d'Or after his former club announced that they will be unable to retain the greatest player in their history, he is yet to make a maiden appearance in their colours since he was coming from a long break. PSG have signed Messi for a two-year deal with the option of extending it for another year.

With the formalities done and dusted and Messi even unveiled in Paris, PSG fans have been waiting eagerly to watch Leo in action on the pitch. And now it seems like their wait is about to get over this Sunday when PSG are up against Reims.

We hope he can be in the squad and start at a competitive level: Pochettino

"It's been a very good week for Leo," PSG coach Pochettino told ESPN Argentina.

"Next week will be a long one, but if all goes well, we hope he can be in the squad and start at a competitive level [against Reims]," he added.

Messi was last seen in action during the Copa America final where he aided Argentina in ending their drought of a major international trophy as Messi's side beat Neymar's Brazil. Both the star footballers are now sharing the same dressing room at PSG.

While Messi is set to make his debut for PSG soon, he might even become unavailable soon after owing to international duty. Notably, La Albiceleste is slated to meet Venezuela and Bolivia in the 2022 World Cup qualifiers next month and the Argentine talisman has been named in that squad.

"I have not yet spoken with the selectors," Pochettino said in the same interview.

"But they know that I am pro-selection and that we are to help not only Argentina but all those nations which involve our players," he added.
