McGregor - Holloway hint at their possible fight in March

Although Irish Mixed Martial Artist Conor McGregor has remained on the sidelines ever since his third fight against Dustin Poirier earlier in the year, there is still no clarity on who he will face once he returns to action. During the time away from fights, he has in fact received a significant number of call-outs from several fighters and he himself has challenged a few others but none of the fights have been confirmed.

Another such name has popped up recently and that happens to be America's Max Holloway. It started after journalist Sean Sheehan had put up a picture with a caption, "Reply with the last MMA picture on your phone." To this, The Notorious replied with a picture of his fight against Holloway in which the latter looked terrified. However, what has made headlines is the fact that the former featherweight champion also has responded to the post with a comment, "we got it, March."

Here is the exchange on social media:

Notably, the two had earlier met when McGregor was part of the featherweight division. During their fight back then, McGregor had taken on a rookie Holloway in his second fight in the UFC. Fair to say, it was an easy win for McGregor. However, things are not the same anymore as not only has there been a change in the weight class but even Holloway has risen in stature and reputation after a 13-fight win streak after that defeat.

Moreover, he has a fight lined up against Yair Rodriguez after which he will get to have a shot at the title against Alexander Volkanovski. However, his recent comment might hint that he is aiming at returning in March.

However, as things stand now it is extremely unlikely that McGregor will be able to compete in March 2022. It is being reported that he will not be ready before the second half of 2022 and while there are several options in line for him to return to action, a fight against Holloway could be a mouth-watering prospect.
